South Carolina was the site of many battles during the American Revolution and the Civil War. It was one of the original 13 colonies that created a new nation. Before the Civil War, South Carolina was primarily an agricultural state, today, over half of the state's residents live in and around cities. South Carolina offers white-sand beaches, rugged mountains and natural attractions, historic plantations and historic forts, cultural and recreational activities… where students can learn and play.
