Boxtales Theatre Company

Boxtales brings myths and folktales from around the world to young audiences using masks, movement, music, and storytelling. Their aim is to fire imaginations, inspire creativity, strengthen cultural pride, encourage tolerance, and engage young people in the excitement and immediacy of live performance. 2015 school assembly programs include The Hero Twins - A Mayan Story, the new bi-lingual piece based on the central creation myth of the Quiche Maya people of Central America; B'rer Rabbit and Other Trickster Tales From Around The World, humorous and magical journey with wily creatures who teach us folk wisdom, morals, and life lessons; Prince Rama and The Monkey King based on the Indian classic The Ramayana; Iron John one the best German fairy tales found in the collections of the Brothers Grimm about a wild man and a prince; The Odyssey Heroic Tales From Greek Mythology, Odysseus tells of his ten-year journey home form the Trojan War; Leyendas de Duende Magical Tales of Latin America explores the rich Indigenous and Hispanic folklore and mythology of Latin America. All of Boxtales' elementary school productions include professionally-researched teacher guides to help students make use of the performance in reaching their curriculum goals.
