New Castle Historical Society

Tour the historic Amstel House, Dutch House, and the Old Library Museum to gain insight into the traditions of early American settlers. Collections at the Amstel House showcasing furniture, plates, and other trinkets reveal the colonial sensibilities of the people who lived there, while the archival collection showcases the history of Delaware with historical documents, maps, and over 1,000 photographs taken in the 19th-20th centuries. Interactive tours develop inquiry skills and engage the imagination – young learners can go on a colonial adventure and learn about why museums collect objects. Tours for older learners focus on the history of Delaware.
