School

Students can have a guided tour of the Hunterdon Art Museum to learn about current exhibits. Docents will teach students about the techniques, influences, and history behind the works on display. Some tours conclude with a group craft project, where students can apply what they’ve studied while making their own art. Some past projects have included sculpting with clay and/or paper, weaving, painting, and bookmaking.

Hunterdon Art Museum

The Hunterdon Art Museum features contemporary art exhibits that focus on modern and conceptual themes, design, and mixed media. Housed in a 19th-century stone mill, the Museum’s permanent collection emphasizes works on paper from 1930 to the present, including printmaking, illustration, painting, and photography. Docent-led tours are available for current exhibits, and discuss themes in contemporary art and expression; hands-on field trips, workshops, and classes are offered to youth groups of all kinds.

Scouts

Scouts can work toward their badges while visiting Museum exhibits, learning about art, and completing art assignments that challenge them with various media and techniques. Girl Scouts can learn about painting, painting styles, types of paintings, and explore visual elements while they create their own work of art; same with painting. They can also explore the art of glass projects, sculpt and paint pottery, create tie-dye patterns, learn the skills of jewelry making, or work with LEGO® Robotics. Boy Scouts can participate in a photography program, demonstrate their knowledge of visual art compositions, create self-portraits, a sculpture, work with clay, multimedia, and more.
