The Lyceum: Alexandria’s History Museum

Learn about the history of Alexandria, Virginia at The Lyceum: Alexandria’s History Museum. Named for The Alexandria Lyceum, a group of men who joined with the Alexandria Library Company in 1839 to create a place for scientific experiments, quiet reading, and lectures, the building has served as a Civil War Hospital, office building, and the nation's first Bicentennial Center. Groups will enjoy ongoing exhibits featuring objects such as pottery and weapons from prehistory, antebellum Alexandria, and the Civil War era. Educational programs allow groups to go on walking tours and discuss the history of Alexandria, Virginia.
