Gillette Castle State Park

The surrounding woodlands, trails, and scenic views get their name from Gillette Castle. A tour of the 24-room mansion will let groups see furniture and architectural details reminiscent of medieval times. William Gillette, the original homeowner and architect, added acute details such as intricate wooden locks, a sliding dining room table that disappears into a wall, and carved ceilings. The grounds are free to explore, and student and scout groups can picnic or enjoy the views of the Connecticut River and hills. They can also see the stone bridges and archways, or explore Gillette’s personal train station and old railway tunnel.
