DESTINATIONS

School

Students can hike themed nature trails as they learn how to interpret the forest’s natural products and processes. They can discover the effects that competition, lightning, and wind have on forest growth; learn about the collecting, sorting, and planting of seeds; look for signs of critters on the Swamp Life trail; identify evidence of wildfires, and observe fire management techniques; and more. The Forest Products program allows them to see the milling of logs into lumber, growing of mushrooms, and other interesting processes. Some programs involve visiting the arboretum, the nursery, the Toms River, and other sites. Weather permitting, some programs may include fun activities such as going on a hayride, observing bee pollination, and participating in making maple syrup.
