New Jersey

Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park

This 70-mile long corridor connects upland forests and fields, in varying stages of succession, and is home to at least 160 species of birds. Remnants of old bridges, houses, spillways, and stone-arched culverts make the canal a popular area for history lovers. With its close proximity to rivers, visitors can study the diversity of many animals and plants. Register for a nature program to learn about forestry and orienteering, how to investigate local trees and study habitats, or how to find and identify insects. The canal is one of New Jersey’s popular locations for cycling, jogging, hiking, canoeing, and fishing.
