School

Students will have a variety of opportunities to learn about Eisenhower’s presidency, the culture of the 20th century, environmental studies, and more through tours and educational programs. School groups are welcome to take self-guided tours or enjoy a ranger-led tour of the 690-acre site. On the tour, students will view an orientation video about the grounds and farm, see Eisenhower’s office, peruse a wayside exhibit in Eisenhower’s Skeet Range on trap and skeet shooting, see the presidential limousine in the garage, and more. Educational programs include activities such as role-playing as enlisted World War II soldiers, examining equipment carried to Normandy beaches by infantrymen, analyzing soil samples from the farm, and others.

Groups will have the chance to tour the place where 34th President of the US, Dwight Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie, lived before and after his presidency. The house, grounds, and (still working) farm are mostly unchanged since the mid-20th century, giving groups an inside look at the life of one of America’s most influential presidents. Guided tours of the site provide historical context for students, scouts, homeschoolers, and camp groups. The museum collection features farm objects, photos, 1950s decor, and military items that chronicle the lives of the Eisenhower family and the history of the farm. The historic site offers a variety of history and environmental education programs for scholastic, scout, and camp groups.

Scouts

Sponsored by the BSA New Birth of Freedom Council, Gettysburg National Military Park, and Eisenhower National Historic Site, the Gettysburg Heritage Trail Program is available for scout groups. The program allows scout to hike through Gettysburg Battlefield, explore history and agriculture on a tour the Eisenhower National Historic Site, and much more. Patches will be given to participating scouts after they’ve completed each hike and tour. Scouts are also welcome to visit the site for themed war weekends, which focus on World War I and World War II.

Camp

Summer campers can explore history and science on a guided or self-guided tour of Eisenhower National Historic Site. After the orientation video about the grounds and farm, campers will marvel at the house’s period furnishings, learn about trap and skeet shooting in Eisenhower’s Skeet Range, see the presidential limousine in the garage, walk around the putting green, view farm machinery, and more. On-site programs allow campers to role-play as enlisted World War II soldiers, analyze soil samples from the farm, and engage in a variety of other activities.

Homeschool

Homeschool groups learning about American presidents and military history will deepen their knowledge of topics such as 1950s culture, the Great Wars, and of course, Eisenhower’s presidency on field trips to the historic site. On guided and self-guided tours, homeschoolers will see Eisenhower’s office, his station wagon, presidential limousine, putting green, farm machinery, and more. Homeschoolers will also have the chance to learn about trap and skeet shooting in the Skeet Range’s wayside exhibit. Through on-site programs, homeschoolers can role-play as World War II soldiers, gain knowledge about how the crops on the farm are managed, and engage in a variety of other activities.
