Nemours Mansion & Gardens

Alfred I. du Pont built this 18th-century-French-style chateau in 1909 while incorporating many inventions, details, and techniques of his own design into the house. The mansion contains 77 rooms on 222 acres of land, with European and American furniture, rare mugs and artwork, books, as well as several reproductions of older paintings. A chauffeur’s garage is filled with vintage automobiles that were used on the estate. Tours of the mansion and gardens are available, and friendly, interpretive staff are placed throughout to answer questions and share their knowledge. The gardens include woodlands, sculpted fountains, a reflecting pool, and neoclassical-style sculptures.
