Freer and Sackler Galleries

On tours of the Freer and Sackler Galleries, the staff aims for students to be inspired by works of art, understand commonalities across cultures, and appreciate differences between cultures. All tours are highly interactive, incorporating a variety of learning opportunities such as close looking, describing, comparing and contrasting, developing questions, making choices, creating visual, written, and/or kinesthetic responses to artworks, and engaging with hands-on objects, as well as supporting Common Core standards of learning in social studies, visual arts, and English language arts. Tour topics include Animals and Nature in Asian Art, Treasures of the Freer, Art across Asia, Writing Brings Art to Life, The Arts of East Asia (China, Japan, and Korea), and Religious Arts of Asia (Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam).
