National Gallery of Art

From Byzantine altarpieces to pop art, students will learn all about paintings, sculpture, prints, drawings, photographs, and other works at the National Gallery of Art. Though tours and discussions, groups will encounter original works that complement classroom learning and learn to analyze art. Seminars and workshops allow groups to engage with art, learn to think critically about art and art history, and experience the museum as a resource for lifelong learning. In Art Around the Corner, which partners with D.C-area Title I elementary schools, students visit the National Gallery to engage in critical and creative thinking activities to make meaning from art, acquire art vocabulary in context, and create art in response to what they see.
