Montclair Art Museum

Through its large collection of American and Native American art, this museum strives to understand artistic expression in historical and regional contexts. Galleries of American painting from 1870-1940 explore how artists throughout the country interpreted and explored the American landscape, and their different techniques in doing so. Exhibits of Native American crafts such as basketry, pottery, and regalia over time highlight stylistic changes and the adaptation of traditions. Themed, docent-led tours can be concluded with an art-making workshop, or a sketching and writing activity in the galleries, helping learners to draw connections between art and expression in contemporary life.
