Historic Speedwell

Visit the birthplace of the telegraph, and immerse your group in the Industrial Revolution! At historic Speedwell, your students, scouts, and campers can learn about the S.S. Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and visit the historic Vail House, which boasts portraits and possessions of the family that lived there during the mid-19th century. Groups will also visit the Speedwell Ironworks building, where the first successful demonstration of the telegraph occurred in 1838, and encounter three floors of interactive exhibits about the telegraph, and its connection to modern communications.
