Core Arboretum

West Virginia University’s Core Arboretum is a 91-acre forest on a hillside near the Monongahela River. Groups can enjoy hiking the arboretum’s 3.5 acres of trails, identifying trees in the densely wooded forest, and seeing a wide range birds and of flowers. Flowers include trout lilies, celandine poppies, bloodroot, Dutchman’s breeches, plume lilies, and more. Programs aim to teach groups about ecology, cicada biology, and more. The arboretum also hosts nature walks and PawPaw parties where groups can taste the largest fruit native to West Virginia.
