Byron Museum of History & Lucius Read House

Learn about Byron’s rich history, from industrialization and the Civil War to its place in the mid-20th century. Take a look at the story of Henry “Box” Brown and his journey on the Underground Railroad, and visit the 1840s Lucius Read House, to learn about the house’s role as a hiding place for runaway slaves on the way to freedom. Groups can also see an excavated outhouse, antique household items, Civil War artifacts, and learn about the farming and railroad industries. Study guides, history questions, and scavenger hunts available to school and scout groups.
