Barnegat Lighthouse

Fill your learners’ day with history and outdoor excitement at the Barnegat Lighthouse. Originally lit in 1859, the lighthouse can be climbed to 172 feet above sea level, where groups can take in a view of the bay and Long Beach Island. After the climb, visit the interpretive center, and let stories and pictures take your group through the history of lighthouse technology, and see what life was like for Barnegat’s early lighthouse keepers. Take a walk through the 1/5-mile maritime forest trail and see black cherry, red cedar, and other unique plants, and have a picnic by the waterway.
