Hot Sand

Founded in 2007, Hot Sand allows groups to experience glassblowing while learning about art, science, math, and history. Groups will gain knowledge about the history of glassblowing, the importance of the glass-forming technique in science, the chemical composition of colored glass, and more. Activity options include arranging glass pieces to make a colorful mosaic, making glass bubbles, and using a sand mold and molten glass to create a glass sculpture. Groups can also visit the studio for a tour and glassblowing demo. Visits can include one-on-one sessions with an artist where they’ll collaborate on creating a glass-blown item. All group visits must be scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
