Neches River Adventures

Developed by the Big Thicket Association, this program takes students and scouts down the Neeches River aboard the Ivory Bill, a 45-ft. covered pontoon boat. The comfortable, open-air boat allows them to view the river's unique ecosystem, within a cypress tupelo forest. Groups take part in programs that explore the Neches River's various tributaries, ecology, and history. The Neches is home to more than 200 tree species, 47 mammals, 300 birds, and many reptiles and amphibians. Students in grade Pre-K through 3rd will have a habitat lesson, while older students will participate in a 2-hour field lab.
