Austin Steam Train Association

Groups will fly across the rails in vintage railcars on an exciting field trip with the Austin Steam Train Association. Groups can join a regular run, charter a car, or even the whole train! The Hill Country Flyer is a 66 mile round trip excursion through the Texas Hill Country, crossing the wooden trestle bridge over the South San Gabriel River and Short Creek Canyon. During the two hour layover in Burnet, groups can enjoy lunch, a leisurely stroll around the historic town square, and the Wild West Gunfight. All cars are pulled by a 1960 Alco diesel locomotive.
