Gem Mountain

Discover a world of precious stones at Gem Mountain. Located in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, groups will learn about gems through hands on experiences as they pretend to be prospectors in the mine. Groups will receive two-gallon buckets filled with several gemstones including aquamarine, emerald, moonstones, garnet, citrine, ruby, amethyst, sapphire and others. Educational programs include a gem identification activity where groups can learn about the gems they’ve found. College groups will enjoy the four-hour guided trip to Bushy Creek Mine where they can dig for gems with the help of pneumatic tools carried by the mine’s staff members. All gems collected can be taken home.
