Essex Shipbuilding Museum

At the Essex Shipbuilding Museum students can experience New England work ethics, attitudes and values. Hands-on learning activities are the core of the Museum's education program. During their visit, small groups of students will rotate through learning stations ranging from wooden boat design to frame assembly and steam bending. Learning stations include frame design, steam bending, trunnel making, simple machines, a schoolhouse scavenger hunt, and more. Educators will place practical knowledge of simple machines, buoyancy and wood joining in its historic context. In the Schoolhouse Exhibit, students will be able to view ship models from the Smithsonian Institute and learn the time line of the age of sail.
