Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site

The remains of one of the greatest prehistoric cities in the world is preserved at this site. Learn about the city of Cahokia and the builders who lived there at the Interpretive Center, which focuses on Cahokia's uniqueness as a city, the tradition known as Mississippian, and archaeological research. On a field trip, groups can explore the site, climb the 100-ft. "Monks Mound", and experience the sun calendar. Students will make discoveries about various exhibits including murals, mounds, a recreated village, plaza, and more. Educational Kits, containing replica artifacts and a teacher’s handbook, are available for use in the classroom.
