CSS Neuse

Visit the ironclad gunboat CSS Neuse, which was used by the Confederate Army to try and retake the city of New Bern. See the remnant of the ship’s hull, and a scale model of the original ship. The Neuse is an invaluable look into American history and life during the Civil War with weapons, tools, and stories about the crew members on display. Two school programs educate students on life at sea and at home during the Civil War, using primary sources to compare life then to today. Fall and spring living history programs feature Civil War-related demonstrations.
