New York State

Empire State Plaza Art Collection

Visit what is known as “the greatest collection of modern American art in any single public site that is not a museum.” Formed by Governor Nelson Rockefeller, The Empire State Art Collection features 92 paintings, sculptures, and tapestries created by such artists as Jackson Pollock, Robert Motherwell, Alexander Calder, Lyman Kipp, Robert Rauschenberg, Clement Meadmore, Ronald Bladen, and others. Younger groups engage in art basics and the building blocks of visual thinking with the Line! Shape! Color! program, and elementary-aged visitors explore tricks of the eye and how we create art in the Non-Stop Optical Illusions, and Mathematics & Art programs.
