BuildOn is dedicated to using community service and education to end extreme poverty, both in developing countries and the United States. The organization provides service learning programs in urban areas, engaging students in community action and intensive local service. Currently, buildOn provides high schools the opportunity for projects in the following areas: Chicago, the Bay Area, Connecticut, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia, and Boston. Program types include Direct Service (working in soup kitchens, tutoring students, visiting senior citizens), Indirect Service (planting urban gardens, cleaning graffiti, creating public art), and Advocacy (creating and implementing campaigns on health issues, gender equality, and more). International programs are also available.
