Burpee Museum of Natural History

Housed inside the 1893 Barnes Mansion, this museum has over 100,000 paleontology, geology, biology, and anthropology specimens, and an herbarium. Students can walk among the museum’s prehistoric and woodland galleries as they learn about fossils, learn about Native Americans in an authentic wigwam, meet live animals, and study different types of rocks. Scouts can work toward badges at one of the museum’s annual scout programs, which include archaeology, bird studies, pottery, astronomy, and other topics. Homeschoolers can attend a hands-on, biweekly workshop to develop their knowledge in topics such as energy, measurement systems, animals, and geology.
