New York City

Alice Austen House Museum

Visit the home of one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers. Set on beautiful green grounds, Austen’s Victorian gothic cottage is now a museum offering educational programs. Groups will explore Austen’s life history and have the opportunity to study her prolific body of work, as well as contemporary photographs by other artists. Programs and hands-on activities include finding the very location Alice once stood when taking her photographs and learning how to use a camera to best capture your own photo. Topics discussed include immigration, the rural roots of Staten Island, woman’s rights, etiquette, and Victorian life.
