Featuring mostly flat plains and hilly terrain near the Sangamon River, Springfield, Illinois was settled by European settlers in 1810. President Lincoln resided in Springfield for 24 years of his life. Popular sites include Lincoln's tomb, Old State Capitol State Historic Site, and the Illinois State Museum.
